Interesting, but I take these lists with a grain of salt. The capitol of Idaho, Boise, was ranked #104 in its population group, but I'd feel safer there than the upper-class cities of Irvine and Sunnyvale.

Of course, my current home isn't big enough to be included, but for me it meets just about every one of those requirements you listed above... And that's the key. You have to decide what's best for you and your family.

Based on personal preferences, so-called "safe cities" like San Jose, El Paso, Irvine, and Jacksonville would be terrible places for me and my family to live.

I agree. I just see it as a reference point. But Irvine really is a prett safe to live these days. So is Upland. It's those other factors...
